The following is a GPS map of a ride we did in Cardwell State Forest. It’s not the full ride which we will add later when we remember to charge the GPS up but it’s still a good ride incorporating quite a few challenges (not the least of which seems to be mosquitoes recently). It’ll probably take around 1.5 hours depending on how hard you push. Start at the Northern most section and keep right on the map (left when you’re actually on the track) for the first bit. You’ll probably have to do it a few times to decide which sequence you do things in because there are some loops.

And if you go out there at the moment wear loads of insect repellent and go early. It’s getting very hot. Good thing there’s a waterfall you can swim under at Attie Creek (not on the ride) and the Spa Pool also on the forest drive but not on the ride either.

About Us Lot

Posted: 02/10/2010 in Uncategorized

We’re a bunch of rank amateurs who just like mountain biking for the fun of it rather than the competition. We’re happy to have a go at difficult trails but built in safety mechanisms trigger when there’s a likelihood of smashing our teeth in. All except for Don that is. Ask him about his bike helmet and his little finger. We’re basically in it to have a laugh and get fit at the same time. See a bit of scenery, go helter skelter down some hills, and fall off a lot. Apres bike consists of eating pies from as many bakeries as we can find (Cardwell bakery is the best by far at the moment). And having a couple of cold ones on the odd occasion too.

Of course, there’s an exception to every rule and not only does our exception not partake of the aforementioned coldies but also does a bit of Xterra and triathlons on the side too. If he can’t get up a hill he’ll turn around, go to the bottom and try again until he’s done it. Not that he’s competitive or anything. Stand up and be counted Tim.

Welcome to Mountain Biking FNQ.

We decided to set up this blog because there’s no really good information about mountain biking in Far North Queensland. Many established mountain bike clubs don’t seem to have up to date maps of the known tracks in their area. Which is a pain if you’re a visitor and don’t know anybody at the club.

We’re out to change that by going for a ride around them. And when we do we’ll give you honest opinions of them. Currently, we’re doing a lot of riding around the Cardwell and Mission Beach areas so we’ll be starting with those first. Watch this space!
